For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. Review:
This book is just like the first one, Unearthly. Full of drama, romance, action, secrets: The Works. Anyway, if you read my review for Unearthly, then you read that I loved it. Well, I loved this book too, just not as much. Well, as much, not as much. You get what I'm saying? I loved it, but not loved it loved it. It's weird. Anyways, moving on!
Plot: Like I said, full of drama, romance, action, secrets. I liked it. But, instead of talking about how much I loved this book (just read my review of Unearthly, then replace Unearthly with Hallowed), I'm going to tell you some things I didn't like. I mean, the plot was good. Evil dude comes back to try to get mama and take her with him, dad comes back, and brother becomes rebel, but then there are the details details.
The book was wonderful. I loved it. But the one thing I hated was all the details that were not truly necessary. Now, I read the ARC, but I feel that because mostly everyone loved it, that Cynthia didn't change it much. Anyway, there were so many twists and turns, good right? But with those twists and turns, came so many extra details that I wanted to rewrite the book myself. Like this one: Clara finds out that she isn't a quarter of an angel, she's a Triplare, as in: 3/4. And she is because, load and behold! Dad's an angel, full blooded. Gah, and then BAM, look who else is a Triplare!? Come on, guess. Well, I got pissed. I felt that all the surprises of the book was just a way to get the book flowing. All those extra details were NOT needed. I didn't like it. I felt that Cynthia could have made the book flow without all the details. I mean, the idea that Clara's purpose isn't over is enough to get in three books, but that can be done with out adding that ooh! Clara isn't the only Triplare out there.
One thing I did like was the thing with Jeffery. For most of the books, there was always something wrong with Jeffery, and we finally find out what it is. Sure, I think he's an idiot for not telling anyone about his purpose, but then, he didn't have to do what he did afterward. Plus, I have a bad feeling that his fate isn't going to end well. It says that these books are part of a trilogy, but I have a feeling it could be four books.
Characters: If you read this book, you might think that they've grown, become more mature, but in my eyes, I think they are the same, just with a bit more drama. Sure, Clara had many changes in her live with her dad and discovering what she actually may have made her a bit more like an adult, trying to make sense of what's happening to her, but she's still the girl that wish she was human. The rest, eh. The same as the first book. Except Jeffery, he's full of hate, which really sucked to read.
Romance: Love triangles suck. In Hallowed, it sucked major. I have a feeling that Clara might force Tucker to be with this girl that really likes him. I think it's stupid. And her thing with Christian, yeah, I really don't like the fact that Cynthia keeps making him the twin of Clara. And that they are suppose to be together, even though she loves Tucker, but feels like he deserves a regular human girl. Blah blah blah. The love triangle in the first book was great, but in the second, it went down hill.
Ending: I do want to read Boundless because it's the last book, but I hope it's extremely amazing.
