Review: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

Review:

Unearthly is unearthly. It captivated me from the beginning. It was emotional. Never a dull moment. Drama and supernatural mixed together to create a book that had me on my toes through it all. I loved this book.

Plot: It started out a little slow, but then it started to go faster. Not too fast, but fast enough. There's a part in the middle where it might seem a little boring, but it has it's purpose. Other than that, the book's plot was fabulous. Clara's mom's secrets start to come out slowly. As Purposes goes, they are hard, and Clara's was hard, a bit. She had a choice to make in the end. And there was the biggest plot twist in the end that had me screaming my head off. It would have been soo much easier to keep him normal. And the cliffhanger, kill me.

Characters: Clara is like your average girl. Wants to fit in, have friends, find a boyfriend, go to prom. Well, her angelic side gets in the way with that. But she's determined to succeed in her purpose, never letting the fact that there are several obstacles in the way. And that curious when it comes to trying to figure out her mom. And loving when it comes to her friends and family.

Tucker. Tucker Tucker Tucker. I LOVE HIM!!! Official Book Boyfriend. He's so sweet. He's the boy that your dad would approve of. He's sweet in general. Kind, smart, a good athelete, and not to mention, completely hot. He's mine. End of story.

Christian. I have mixed feelings about him. It all started on prom night when he took his ex home (jackass). I didn't like him. And then he started being sweet and nice to Clara, and I was like: Ah *&$&%#*^. You'll find out what I mean in a second.

The rest of the characters are like your basic minor, high school characters. The best friend, the friend that's just like you, the mean girl, and blah blah blah. They were fine. Mom, well, she was complicated, and I think what is happening in the Angel world is making her stress. Period.

Romance: Well, there's a love triangle. Normal, I hate them. Why can't the heroine just stay with one guy? But this one, well, no agruments. I LOVED IT!!  Well developed, complicated, and it made it soo hard to choose which guy to root for. There's sweetheart Tucker, and Complicated, but just like Clara Christian. I felt sorry for Christian and in love with Tucker at the end. GRR!!! This is one love triangle that I will not like to read about when it ends.

Ending: Like I said earlier, huge twist in the end, kinda didn't like and felt that it shouldn't have been there, but it makes everything so complicated and amazing that you're screeming "WHAT?! NO!! WHERE THE HELL IS THE SECOND BOOK AND WHERE CAN I BUY IT!?!" That was my feelings on it. Thank God I have the second book. Even if it's the ARC version.

Future: Hallowed and then the last book, Boundless (made me cry when i found this out)
